Ladies and Gentlemen:

FowlFest, the annual PVRC/NCDXA late Summer social event, will QSY from
W3NRJ’s QTH and be held on Saturday, August 26 in a covered pavilion in
Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD this year. We have reserved the
“Bobwhite” pavilion located on the Southwestern side of Clopper Lake in a
beautiful and private setting with towering pine trees and ample shade.
Parking is adjacent to the pavilion and rest rooms are a short walk away.

FowlFest will be held from 11:30 am until 3 pm - “rain or shine”. All PVRC
and NCDXA members and their families are invited to attend. Seneca Creek
State Park is also “dog friendly”.

This event, co-sponsored by PVRC and NCDXA, is made possible by the
unselfish generosity of Fred Laun, K3ZO, longtime PVRC and NCDXA member and
current NCDXA President. Joel Knoblock, W3RFC, of The RF Connection has
graciously made a donation to cover the cost of the pavilion rental and
alcohol permit.

*WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED* – Bottled water, iced tea, lemonade, assorted soft
drinks, deli coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad, all paper products,
utensils, etc. and of course, lots of tasty barbequed chicken. A variety of
chips and dips will also be provided. You may bring your favorite
non-alcoholic beverage, wine or beer for yourself or to share. Thank you
again Fred for your generosity and gift to our club membership to help
continuing this long-standing tradition!

*APPETIZERS, SIDE DISHES AND DESSERTS WELCOME* – Please bring an appetizer,
a side dish to complement barbequed chicken or a dessert to share, serving
4-6 people. Suggestions are: raw vegetables with dip, hummus with pita
chips, corn relish, cucumber salad, pasta or macaroni salad, tossed green
salads with dressing, three-bean salad, couscous salad, brownies,
watermelon or fresh fruit salad.

*OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD BRING* - While there is covered seating for 50
available in the pavilion, some of it will be used as the serving bar for
holding side dishes, etc. You should consider bringing a lawn chair to sit
under the shade of the pine trees on the perimeter of the pavilion area to
spread the crowd around and encourage socializing.

*ADDRESS AND DIRECTIONS* – Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Road,
Gaithersburg, MD 20878. The park is approximately 2 miles away after
taking Exit 10 off I-270 Northbound and about 1.5 miles from Exit 11 off
I-270 Southbound.

*NOTE: *There is a $3.00 service charge per person for MD residents and
$5.00 charge per person for out-of-state residents payable in cash only at
the front entrance gate. Maryland Park Service Golden Age cardholders
presenting their membership card at the entrance gate will enter the park
free-of-charge.

*TELL US IF YOU ARE ATTENDING* – Announcements sent out in early August
will include a link to a brief FowlFest registration form in Google Forms.
Please click on the link, provide the information requested and you will be
registered. The form will be used to let us how many will be attending,
what you will be bringing in the way of side dishes, etc, your preference
for chicken parts and beverages and if you can volunteer a little time.
This will greatly help final planning of the event.

*VOLUNTEERS NEEDED* – A few volunteers will be needed to help with the
following items:

   1.

Costco chicken run – someone with a Costco membership in the Silver
Spring area to accompany Todd to purchase the chicken parts and
miscellaneous supplies. Todd will transport them home on his own. This will
be done about 4-5 days before FowlFest.
   2.

Deli sides pickup – someone who lives close to DC and can pick up side
dishes from Rockland’s Barbeque and Grilling Company at 2148 Wisconsin Ave
in DC on Friday, August 25 and bring them to FowlFest in a large cooler
with ice, if possible by 10:00 am on Saturday, August 26.
   3.

Large cooler(s) needed – one or more large coolers filled with ice may
be needed to hold side dishes and to serve as the communal “ice buckets”.
   4.

Setup – arrive 9 am to help unload grills, coolers, paper products, food
   items and set up
   5.

Clean up – 30 minutes to 1 hour after event, collect leftover food
items, trash and load grills, etc into truck; chill and help drink any
   leftover wine!

All volunteers will be reimbursed for expenses incurred and items
   purchased for FowlFest.

Please let us know via Email (jackference at gmail.com) if you can help.

*NO RAIN DATE* – This year, FowlFest will go on “rain or shine”.

*NCDXA FOWLFEST MEETING - *NCDXA will hold a club meeting from 2:00-2:30
pm during FowlFest. Anyone may attend. QSL checking will be also performed
on site by Don Search, W3AZD – sorry, 160m cards cannot be checked.

Come, join the group in the dog-days of Summer and swap stories of DX
worked, brag about your standing in the DXCC Challenge, share your
experience with JT-65 working the world on 6 meters this season, etc., and
update us on the status of your latest finished and unfinished ham radio
   projects.

73 and hope to see you there!
