[NCDXA] Reminder: NCDXA Meeting Saturday December 7.

Fellow members of NCDXA:

Just a reminder that we will be having a regular meeting of the National
Capitol DX Association on this coming Saturday, December 7, 2019.
Please see the following for details.

There is no program as such but I will be sharing details of my recent
whirlwind trip to Thailand where I participated in the CQWW DX Contest.
Thailand's Amateur Radio fortunes have come a long way since I first set
foot in that country in 1968.  Some of its neighboring countries have also
seen tremendous growth in their Amateur Radio populations.

Other topics to be included in our meeting will be support for possible
upcoming DXpeditions, and the updating of our annual report to ARRL HQ in
connection with our being an ARRL Affiliated Club.

Under the recent change in policy whereby meetings are held at noontime or
shortly thereafter, this should allow all of you to return home before dark
even during the short days of winter.    Looking forward to seeing you
there.

Our regular December meeting will take place on Saturday, December 7, from
1:30 to 3:30 PM, at the
Private Dining Room (PDR) of the Ellipse Restaurant, Fairview Park Marriott
Hotel,
3111 Fairview Park Drive, Falls Church, VA.

For several years we have had our December meeting at the home of  Marlene
Hammond, KB4FAS
who so kindly hosted our Christmas event, but Marlene has moved from her
Oakton home.  Thanks
once again to Marlene for the wonderful hospitality she provided at those
events.

In reserving the meeting at the Marriott, which we have used before on
several occasions, I tried
to schedule the meeting as close to noon as possible in line with our new
custom of holding meetings at
a time when it will still be daylight by the time we get back home, but the
food and beverage manager
of the hotel informed me that the earliest the PDR would be available on
Saturdays is 1:30 PM because
of congestion in the main dining room, so I have blocked out the 1:30-3:30
time period for our use.

Driving directions to the meeting follow.  Drinks and dinner can be ordered
from
the hotel during the meeting.

>From the Beltway I-495: Exit the Beltway at EXIT 50-B, marked Route 50 East,
ARLINGTON.

Follow sign marked FAIRVIEW PARK SOUTH. You will swerve around to your
right.

After the overhead traffic lights move over into the left lane.

The SECOND LEFT TURN possible (left turn lane here) will take you
immediately to
the front door of the Hotel. Plentiful complementary parking is in covered
garage and outdoor lots. Handicapped parking is to the right of the front
door
of the hotel.


>From the District of Columbia:

Take Route 50 West, Arlington Boulevard toward FAIRFAX.

Just before the Beltway I-95, exit to the right where marked FAIRVIEW PARK.
Do
not get on the Beltway here. At the top of the exit ramp swerve off to the
LEFT.
The sign there is “FAIRVIEW PARK S” meaning “Fairview Park South.”

You are now on Fairview Park Drive. Move into the LEFT LANE.

The SECOND LEFT TURN possible (left turn lane here) will take you
immediately to
the front of the Hotel.


Complementary parking is in covered garage and outdoor lots. Handicapped
parking
is to the right of the front door of the hotel.  Assuming that you enter the
front door of the hotel, turn right immediately after you enter. Proceed
down
the corridor. The telephones and RESTROOMS are on your right immediately
after
the Gift Shop. Pass the first canopy on your left (Club Lounge cocktail
bar) and
continue to The Ellipse entrance on your left.

>From the covered parking garage: Take the elevator to "L" (Lobby) level
Take a
right out of the elevator and follow through two sets of doors. The Ellipse
Restaurant will be on your right just after you pass through the second set
of
doors.
