Thanks for the info, Fred. Please put me and Elena down for attending.
Sorry to hear about Don's illness. He is also a PVRC member, and at one time years ago, we were both members of the Maryland Mobileers, a 2-meter club in the Annapolis area.
I had a very pleasant surprise today when looking through my list of recent QSO log matches on ClubLog.
I had written off E44CC as a lost cause, not believing that I had a good QSO after numerous near QSOs, once when he sent CM? and I responded with my call, but we didn't connect on that one. He just didn't come back with whole call.
But there was E44CC in my log match for an 80-meter CW QSO made on Thursday night. He's an ATNO for me.
I give the E44CC ops a great deal of credit for operating 80 CW for long stretches. They likely switched ops many times.
After operating as YI3DX and many times at 4U1ITU, I conclude that 80 meters is very tough to work in Region 1 because it's shared with the fixed service and there are many strong carriers. I recall operating 80 CW split as YI3DX. First of all, it's hard to find a clean frequency in between all of the carriers. Then you find one and go split. Tuning up the band can be brutal because you hear there very strong carriers. I could only take so much of that.

Subject: [NCDXA] Announcing Regular NCDXA Meeting Saturday, February 29
Fellow Members of NCDXA:
The regular February meeting of the National Capitol DX Association will take place on Saturday,
February 29 (yes, leap day!) at 12 noon at the Ellipse Restaurant, Fairview Park Marriott Hotel,
3111 Fairview Park Drive, Falls Church, VA.
Normally we have used the Private Dining Room (PDR) at this facility but the PDR is currentlyundergoing complete renovation as the result of water damage, and it is uncertainat this point whether the work will be finished in time for our meeting. The managementhas promised to provide us space away from other diners so we can meet without distraction, and in the process has agreed to our preferred meeting time of noon instead of 1:30 as in thepast. Directions to the hotel are provided below.
I have recently returned from Hamcation in Orlando, where I received word that our CharterMember Don Search, W3AZD has been hospitalized and that there is some concern thatDon might not pull through. I was not provided with information about exactly what illnessis involved. Members of the South Florida DX Association (SFDXA) are on the case andhave assured me that they will keep us informed. They are also concerned about the factthat Hope Smith, WB3ANE is home alone and are doing what they can to provide supportfor her. I'm sure that all of us will keep Don and Hope in our thoughts as we wish for a successfuloutcome.
As the date for the meeting gets closer I will provide the agenda. Looking forward to seeingyou all there.
73, Fred Laun, K3ZOPresident
