The meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM EST by President K3ZO. Those
present were asked to introduce themselves.
The minutes of the meeting on October 27, 2021 had been posted online
earlier and were accepted without change.
Craig Lee, N3NT and Dennis Kronenberg, N8IVN had applied for NCDXA
membership.
They were asked to give brief biographical sketches of themselves and were
enthusiastically voted into membership by a unanimous vote of those in
attendance.
Treasurer K3EW reported that the treasury stood at $5002.62 as of this
meeting. Out of 44 members, Phil reported that eight were not fully paid up
to date as of the meeting. (Some of those have paid up since then.) The
United Bank branch closest to Phil's QTH has closed, but he has been able
to bank electronically so that has not caused a problem.
In the absence of N4MM, K3ZO reported briefly on ARRL matters. Two ARRL
Directors were voted out of office in recent ARRL elections. One of those
was Bud Hippisley, W2RU, Director of the Roanoke Division. He has been
replaced by former Director Jim Boehner, N2ZZ, who takes office on January
1, 2022. Many NCDXA members reside in the Roanoke Division. The Vice
Director of the Roanoke Division, N2COP was unopposed so has already been
declared elected for another term.
Several of those in attendance reported that band conditions on the higher
bands have improved noticeably due to the higher Solar Flux values. Among
other DX stations who have been active recently is the newly active Monk
Iakovos from Mount Athos, SV2RSG/A who has turned out to be a surprisingly
good CW operator.
ARRL W3 QSL Bureau Manager K3ZO reported that the flow of incoming cards
has once again slowed down recently. He suspects that the flareup of the
new Covid-19 variant has caused some packages from overseas bureaus to be
delayed. The final statistics for CY-2021 will be available shortly as
end-of-year reports are required by ARRL HQ.
A request for NCDXA financial support of QSL.net had been received. NCDXA
Webmaster K1MU has reported that NCDXA no longer uses any of QSL.net's
services. After discussion, those in attendance decided not to respond to
the QSL.net request.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM. A
number of those present continued discussions after the formal close of the
meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Alfred A "Fred" Laun, III, K3ZO
Secretary (Acting)
