Fellow Members of NCDXA:
I am saddened to report that former NCDXA member Marty Green, K2PLF has
become a Silent Key. Reportedly Marty had been suffering from Parkinsons
Disease.
Marty was well known in the area especially for his exploits on six
meters. Marty often was the first person to detect a six meter opening and
was always quick to notify other DXers about it.
Marty had spent some years working in the Chicago area and I am originally
from Wisconsin so the two of us sometimes found ourselves both attending
the annual W9DXCC dinner. I was privileged to be given a tour of his
station north of Baltimore not far from the Pennsylvania border, on a
slight rise but with a great view to the horizon in all directions. He had
acquired several sections of Rohn tower which he intended to put up, but
with his great radio location he quickly found that AB-577 military
surplus masts were all he needed to work the DX he was chasing, and the
Rohn tower sections remained laying on the side of his driveway for the
duration.
Marty was always of a friendly, congenial disposition and was a great fount
of DX knowledge. He will be missed.
