Fellow Members of NCDXA:
Before going on to relate the details of our most recent regular
meeting, I would like to formally thank and congratulate our
Treasurer Phil Barsky, K3EW for his initiatives in utilizing the ZOOM
online application to expand and revitalize our organization.
As NCDXA old-timers know, our organization used to meet in members'
homes where informal camaraderie, good food and drink and fellowship
were in abundance. But the march of time has, sadly, depleted
and/or scattered our local ranks, and for most of my time as President,
had morphed into greatly reduced numbers of members meeting in the
psychologically colder atmosphere of hotel rooms.
Nobody would wish a return of the pandemic on us, but it did have
the unintended result of motivating organizations to find new ways
to connect with members and to recruit new members. In the case
of NCDXA, this has allowed members who have moved out of the area
to attend regular meetings and for NCDXA to offer membership to
folks who live too far away to attend in-person meetings.
Not only has Phil skilfully used his knowledge of online capabilities
to resuscitate our regular meetings, but his establishing the weekly
"How's DX" sessions has allowed us to relate to each other more frequently
as well as enhancing the value of NCDXA membership.
For these reasons, I know you will all join me in awarding Phil a
hearty vote of thanks.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE NATIONAL CAPITOL DX ASSOCIATION
OCTOBER 27, 2022
After a bit of confusion caused by ZOOM connectivity problems, President
K3ZO called the online meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. EDST.
In attendance were the following members:
1. Vic Culver, W4VIC
2. Fred Laun, K3ZO
3. Howard Sherer, AE3T
4. Ed Kuebert, K5EK
5. Fred Matos, W3ICM
6. John Kanode, N4MM
7. Brian Treadwell, WV4V
8. Terry Hines, N4ZH
9. Everett Bollin, WA3DVO
10. Mike Cresap, W3IP (guest)
Since the in-person August FOWLFEST meeting had been a purely social
affair, no
minutes had been taken of that meeting, so there are no former minutes to
read
this time.
K3ZO pointed out that this October meeting has traditionally been the annual
meeting at which officers are selected. He pointed out that at the present
time, he has been acting as Secretary since there is currently no incumbent
in this position. He suggested that, given that up to five of the six
regular
yearly meetings are now held online via ZOOM, there is no practical reason
why out-of-area members cannot be officers. He opened the floor for
discussion
of this matter.
As a result, Brian Treadwell, WV4V offered to become Secretary, and his
initiative
was accepted. K3ZO said he would provide necessary materials to WV4V in
due course.
In the absence of Treasurer K3EW, K3ZO relayed his Treasurer's report. At
this
time the treasury has $5,963.08 cash on hand. K3EW wished members to take
note
that 2023 dues of $30 are solicited for those who have not yet paid up.
There was some discussion by those present as to whether NCDXA should
contribute
to the upcoming DXpeditions to Crozet and/or Bouvet.
Vice-President N4MM gave his regular report on ARRL affairs. There was
some concern
that QST has not been as useful or as timely as usual. As for current
DXpeditions, most
of the discussion involved P29PO and TYØRU.
K3ZO reported that the flow of overseas cards into the W3 QSL Bureau had
slowed
recently. The yearly report of bureau numbers would be made at the end of
December.
There being no further business, the formal meeting was closed at 8:08 PM
after
which informal discussions continued.
Respectfully submitted,
Fred Laun, K3ZO
Secretary (Acting)
