Hello All,

I am in the process of making arrangements to have a quantity of replacement winch cables fabricated for the AB-577 and AB-621 rocket launchers. I have now decided to open up this offer to NCDXA members as well.

In 2012 there was a PVRC group buy following the catastrophic failure of the winch cable while setting up for W3AO field day. The last buy was orchestrated by Dan, K2YWE, current PVRC President. Over 50 sets of cables were ordered at that time. I have been in contact with Dan and have used his drawing and the same company that produced them back in 2012 to obtain quotes.

The replacement cable is an 11 ft long 3/16" by 7x16 stainless steel wire rope terminated with a thimble on one end and a shank ball where the cable fits inside the winch sprocket. This cable assembly is not generally available. In the past, Ontario Surplus has carried it, but it is currently out-of-stock with an unknown date for re-stocking.

I currently have orders from 24 PVRC members for 38 cable sets. I expect to place the order by Wednesday of this coming week.

The estimated cost per cable will range between $30 and $40 and be determined once the order is placed. This is the shipped cost to my location. Shipping to your location would be $8.85 using USPS Priority Mail Padded Envelope. Pickup could also be arranged. All orders must be confirmed by payment in advance.

The cables will be available approximately 2-3 weeks after the order is placed. I will also include a replacement cotter pin and roll pin needed to install the new cable and a link to instructions for cable removal and replacement for the AB-621, the AB-577 sister rocket launcher. The process is similar for the AB-577 and can usually be performed without removal of the winch sprocket.

I have also arranged a group buy of the AB-577 and AB-621 guide rollers.

Fourteen PVRC members have ordered almost 150 replacement guide rollers. The cost of these will be in the $10 - $15 range, dependent of material cost, labor and shipping. This order will be finalized by the end of next week. More details will be provided once I have a sense of the level of interest.
