As some of you know, I recently attended the big Ham Radio event in
Friedrichshafen, Germany. While it is not my intent to give a long
description of events there, I thought that as your president I should pass
along any DX news that I felt was significant.
For me the highlight of the event was the Saturday night banquet put on by
the Bavarian Contest Club. If there was ever an event which I have
attended where as you looked over the badges and hats of the 280 or so
DXers and contesters in attendance, this was it, where almost every one of
them is a well-known figure in Amateur Radio circles in his or her own
right.
Among those in attendance was 3Z9DX, who says he operated briefly from
North Korea on a demonstration visit, and says he expects to go back for a
bigger operation eventually. As the evening progressed I took on board
more than my share of excellent German draught beer to the point where I
had no problem speaking frankly and directly with even the most exalted of
those present. So as I shook 3Z9DX's hand I said: "I understand that the
Spanish apologist for the North Korean regime says you couldn't possibly
have been in North Korea. The rumor was that he was mad because you didn't
use his travel agency when you booked your North Korean travel."
3Z9DX's answer was: "I don't worry about that guy because now he's in
jail."
Sure enough, he is, and here is the story:

Just another story among the thousands involving our fascinating world-wide
hobby.
See you all at the Fowlfest!
