[NCDXA] W3AZD Silent Key

Fellow Members of NCDXA:


I am sorry to report that NCDXA Charter Member and longtime PVRC member
Donald
B. Search, W3AZD has become a Silent Key.

In his more than 60 years as an Amateur Radio licensee, Don contributed his
efforts to contesting and DXing in many ways.  For several years he was an
operator at the storied multi-multi contest station of the late Ed Bissell,
W3MSK/W3AU. For some time Don served as the Chief of the DXCC Desk at ARRL
Headquarters.  Upon his retirement to Florida,  Don continued to serve his
fellow hams and the public in general as a DXCC Field Checker. He was also
the
sorter of the "A" suffix for the ARRL Third Call Area Incoming QSL Bureau
and
sorter of the "L" and "V" suffixes for the Two-Letter Prefix Fourth Call
Area
Incoming QSL Bureau.   Every year at Dayton Don could be found checking
cards at
the ARRL booth. Don also participated in VHF hurricane nets in his area of
Florida.

Despite being resident in places as far-flung as Connecticut and Florida,
Mr.
Search managed to attend every single meeting of NCDXA from the time it was
formed
until April, 2018.   At the NCDXA Meeting of April 14, 2018, Don was
recognized
with a plaque as recognition for that incredible attendance record (photo).

Our condolences and sympathies go to Don's long-time companion, Hope Smith,
WB3ANE.

Special recognition is due to NCDXA Treasurer Phil Barsky, K3EW who,
apprised of
Don's physical deterioration, personally retrieved all of the bureau
materials in Don's
possession and arranged for their safe return to the respective bureaus
in question.
