[NCDXA] Minutes of NCDXA October 13 Meeting

Fellow Members of NCDXA:

Please find herewith the minutes of the regular October 2020 meeting of the
National Capitol DX Association.   Many thanks to Treasurer Phil Barksy,
K3EW for
producing them, given the intermittency I was having with the ZOOM
interface.

Minutes from NCDXA meeting, 13 October 2020



1.       Fred Laun, K3ZO President called the online meeting to order at
7:04 PM EDT via ZOOM.


2.       Meeting attendees and their operational reports:

a.       Tom KE3GK- Chasing E Malaysian DXpedition on morning grey Line on
40 meters

b.      Everett WA3DVO- No report of activity

c.       John N4MM – This was his third time on Zoom; no contesting;
upcoming surgery; Has lots of beams, coax, towers, etc. for sale.
Downsizing underway. -contact him if interested

d.      Rick K3YNY – uses Zoom all the time for friends; no on air activity
reported

e.      Al- WA1T- New Hampshire- Needs to get a camera hooked up to
computer setup for Zoom; He has been in NH for past 3 years and in
Annapolis for 8 years prior to that.

f.        Kris – W3XG- Been in Ellicott City since the mid 1990’s- will be
moving soon

g.       Jim- W3NRJ                - A leg of his 160-meter Horizontal Loop
was taken out by a falling branch- waiting for leaves to fall off to enable
easier repair. No significant airtime reported

h.      H. Terry – N4ZH- Worked in AZ, PA and CA QSO Parties

i.         Phil- K3EW – 80 M Grey Line to VK6LW , won Oct SKCC Weekend
Sprint, general DX chasing on 40 mostly.

j.        Fred- K3ZO- Will be working in the Worked All Germany contest .


3.       August 4th meeting minutes were partially read and accepted.


4.       Treasurer’s report: 30 September balance $3708.63. Treasurer asked
attendees to get in their dues for 20-21.


5.       Fred led discussion as to whether or not we want to have our every
other month meetings virtual from now on, except for W3LPL and Fowlfest
meetings which will be eyeball , hopefully starting next year. John Kanode,
Phil Barsky and Fred Laun all said it was fine by them- others did not
chime in. Decision: Virtual meetings for foreseeable future except for two
exceptions noted in previous sentence.


6.       Election of Officers: At this time, only President and Secretary
were open for nominations. Fred volunteered that he would be happy to
continue as President. Jim Locke was not going to continue as Secretary,
and no one offered themselves or anybody else for that position. Fred made
the offer to do it temporarily until he could find someone willing to serve
as Secretary. Fred was unanimously elected president for another 2 years.


7.       ARRL Report from N4MM:

a.       Everyone waiting for start of Dave NY2AA term as CEO of the ARRL.
Board members, ARRL Staff and membership wishing Dave much success in his
new position.

b.      DX Report: There is a proposal from PVRC to League concerning 6M
DXCC. There was a successful August DXpedition to JW, JW40

c.       Due to Covid issues, VE testing in Winchester VA area has been
shut down.


8.       QSL Bureau- Fred reports receiving big box of cards from RSGB.
Fred reminded group that RSGB Bureau  sends him cards for all US bureaus
and then he forwards them to the other ARRL bureaus.

Someone is working the WA4 bureau picking up the ball from the late Dick
Maylott.


9.       Tom, KE3GK brought up new business concerning membership
certificate. He offered to be the owner of that part of club operations. He
had composed a sample certificate and will forward it to Fred for his
appraisal. Additionally Tom offered that he would either send the
certificate to a member or email a JPEG file from which the member could
print out certificate. Rick Hanby was forwarding blank copies of old
certificates to Fred. John Kanode showed everyone his copy of his 1973
NCDXA membership certificate. Further discussions about certificates will
be forthcoming after Fred evaluates the alternatives.


10.   Motion to adjourn at 7:58 made by Fred, seconded by Phil.
