Dear Phil

Thank you very much for your email.  Uncle Fred meant a lot to me, and I am
glad his callsign will live on under NCDXA.  The callsign K3ZO will also be
on the plaques of both CQ WW and CQ WPX, in CW and SSB, to honour his
memory going forward.

I look forward to hear "Kilowatt Three Zanzibar Ocean" on the air again.

First of all I wanted to pass along my condolences on losing your very long
time and dear friend Fred Laun. I too was a close friend to Fred, acting as
his Treasurer for many years as he led the National Capitol DX Association.
Right after he passed, I acted to reorganize his beloved NCDXA into a
Non-Profit Organization, which eliminated any tax liability for the
Association and ensured that it would endure into the future. I took over
the lead, being assisted by Ed K5Ek, and Howard AE3T, both longtime members
of NCDXA.

In order to memorialize Fred's Call, K3ZO, I initiated a request that
Fred's call ownership be given over to the NCDXA. Fred's brother Jack
agreed to that action, and with the leadership of Rick Murphy, K1MU,
longtime trustee for the old Association call of NC3DX, we made an
application to the FCC. The FCC, this week, has officially transferred the
ownership of K3ZO to the National Capital DX Association. In this way we
preserve the memory of Fred's beloved call sign by it being the NCDXA
callsign.  It is our intention to have various members put the call on the
air during the year, especially during DX contests, which Fred loved to
operate in.
