June 2012 Meeting Minutes:

The June NCDXA meeting was held at the QTH of W3LPL, Frank Donovan as
a joint meeting with PVRC.

The meeting was called to order at 12:30 PM by Vice President, Terry
Hines, N4ZH in the absence of our President.
Attendees: Members: N4ZH, W3MC, W2GPS, PB2T, W2YE, N4MM, N1KC, K1MU,
K3PU, W3UR, W3AZD, WB3ANE, W3OU, W4FQT, K3IRV, K3SKE, K5VRX, K5RJ,
N4VA, K4RZ, WM3O.
Visitors: N3HMW, W3IUU, Penny Gaffney (XYL K3PU), K3EGW.

The Vice President turned the meeting over to Mike, W3MC, to discuss
the status of the DXCC-EAST convention. Mike mentioned that online
registration was now available and that we need 150 attendees for he
club to break even. He mentioned that we have several well known
speakers who have committed to the event, including our very own K3ZO.
Mike requested help in several areas. The first area was for someone
to track prizes for the event. N4ZH volunteered for this role. Mike
still needs someone to operate the PA systems and to set up to support
speakers showing slides, etc.
The vendor room at the conference, with tables spoken for and paid.
Mike is looking in to exanding space for vendors.
Currently we have sponsorship from Icom, Yaesu, ACOM. We are
negotiating with others. Kenwood will have a 590 and TS-990 at W3LPLs
the day before the meeting.
Mike also needs a volunteer to support setup at W3LPLs.

The Vice President then requested a Treasurer's report from N1KC.
Brian mentioned that he is holding checks from vendors and for
attendees while waiting for NCDXA incorporation. He encouraged members
to consider attending the event.
Brian then announced that as of June 8th, NCDXA is now incorporated as
a non-profit corporation in Virginia. We still need to register the
club with the IRS as a non-profit. This will change the way the club
is organized as members will now elect a board of directors. Those
directors will appoint the officers. We should have updated bylaws by
the annual meeting in October.

The Vice President then turned attention to Bureau manners. Fred,
K3ZO, reported that volume had fallen significantly.

The Vice President then asked John, N4MM, to report on any DXAC or
ARRL matters. John related that he had been discussing DXCC with
Dennis Bodson at the Manassas hamfest, specifically about the
potential to standardize DXCC to have the same start date (1945) for
all awards.
John also stated that the DXCC will begin using the US State
Department's List of Independent States as additional entity criteria.
This is being worked through the PSC and eventually to the Board for
approval.

Terry then brought up the matter of the August meeting, which is the
joint Fowlfest. This meeting will be held the week before the
DXCC-EAST convention. Discussion then ensued about whether the NCDXA
meeting should be moved to the DXCC-EAST weekend. Due to the
difficulty of finding a time that does not conflict with events, it
was decided by the members present to leave the meeting at the
Fowlfest.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Rick Murphy, K1MU
NCDXA Secretary
