[NCDXA] [PVRC] Dayton Question

Hi Frank - short vertical arrays are a great option. I have the
monoband 8 element Hi-Z arrays for 160 and 80 plus, a 3 element in an
L pattern that uses two vertices at a time and gives 4 directions.
The three elements cover 160, 80, and 40 meters. Obviously the mono
band 8 element arrays are superior, but the 3 element is not that far
down and has a much smaller footprint. An advantage of 3 elements are
the broader pattern, perfect for domestic contesting.

Regarding use of the NCC-2, as you say you can steer the null but, how
do you know what direction the null is in? It seems to be a hit or
miss. We did that very thing at ET3AA, two active elements and the
NCC-2. In fact we were able to null the noise. But I had no idea
which direction the null was, until later.

Even though the noise was down, so were the signals from Europe and
North America. So it appears the null was to the northwest. That's
not a good scenario when your major noise source is from the same
direction as the signals you are trying to hear. Later we used the
NCC-2 as a noise cancelling device, a noise sense antenna on one of
the channels to pick up only the local noise. That helped some.
